CAR ACCIDENT: Woman files suit against Google for wrong directions, accident

June 1, 2010

San Francisco - A woman has filed a lawsuit against Google for wrong road direction, causing her to sustain injuries from a car that hit her.

Lauren Rosenberg asserted that she sought map direction for 96 Daly Avenue to 1710 Prospector Avenue in Park City from Google Maps, using her Blackberry cell phone.

Northridge’s Rosenberg contested that Google led her to walk down a busy highway without pedestrian sidewalks. The mid-20 woman was consequently hit by a motorist and sustained catastrophic injuries on the night of January 19, 2009.

Her attorneys asserted that Google has the responsibility to provide safe directions for users, and provide warning of potential and known dangers. She also sued the driver, Patrick Harwood, for negligence. The young lady was seeking compensation for her $100,000 hospital expenses.

Reports said Google representative clarified that Google Maps has had a disclaimer and safety warning available for mobile phone users since 2008.

Park City traffic officers explained that the Deer Valley Drive has sidewalks in certain areas, but Rosenberg failed to reach the area.
