October 20, 2010
Santa Ana – An unlicensed driver who apparently suffered from a grand mal seizure hit a mother pushing her 4-year-old son in a stroller near Grand Avenue Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Reports show that the Ford Crown Victoria driven by the 39-year-old unidentified driver veered off the eastbound lane of McFadden at around 10 am and hit the woman and her son on the sidewalk. The vehicle crashed the child’s stroller as it rested against an iron fence.
The collision had thrown the mother and the child some 20 feet away. The woman and the boy who appeared to have head injuries were taken to Western Medical Center.
According to the driver’s 65-year-old mother, her son suffered a grand mal seizure while driving and so she grabbed the wheel and attempted to control it. Unfortunately, the vehicle jumped the curb and hit the woman and her son’s stroller.
According to authorities, the driver was not issued with a driver’s license because of his medical condition. Both the driver and his mother were unharmed in the accident.
