TWO-CAR COLLISION: Suspected Drunk Teen Driver Dies in Collision

January 23, 2011

Antelope – At least one person was killed, and two others suffered injuries, after a two-car collision early Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Investigators said James Meeink, 19, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer on North Loop Boulevard towards Walerga Road. CHP spokeswoman Officer Lizz Dutton said that the car was running at high speed. A 2003 Toyota Corolla meanwhile was on northbound of Walerga.

Both cars went through a red light, causing them to collide at the intersection. Meeink’s Blazer also hit a wall and overturned. He and his 20-year-passenger were then ejected out of the car, but Meeink was the only fatality.

The passenger was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, while the 27-year-old driver of the Corolla suffered moderate injuries and was sent to Sutter Roseville.

Results of toxicology tests on Meeink will determine whether he was under the influence when the accident happened or not.
