CAR CRASH: Suspected DUI Driver Smashes Vehicle into Patrol Car

January 7, 2011

Victorville – A suspected drunken driver rammed his car into a California Highway Patrol car Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 1:30 pm on Bear Valley Road near Hesperia Road. The CHP officer inside the patrol car was traveling westbound to the scene of another crash involving an injured off-road motorcycle rider. He had the sirens and lights activated.

A Chevrolet Blazer then drove through the intersection, struck the patrol car, and overturned. The driver of the Blazer was identified as Kenneth Marshall, 34. He was later arrested by San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies for suspicion of driving while under the influence and for violating a previous DUI probation.

Neither Marshall nor the officer suffered severe injuries. The accident caused heavy traffic for several hours after the corner of Bear Valley and Hesperia was closed to give way for investigation.
