CAR ACCIDENT: San Mateo Single-car crash kills man

San Mateo – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that one person died in an early morning crash that happened in unincorporated San Mateo County Thursday.
The driver of the car was later identified as Darryl Gainer, 24, of San Jose. At about 1:15 a.m., Gainer was driving east of Page Mill Road near Skyline Boulevard in the Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve area on his 1991 Mazda Miata. He accidentally drove off the road and struck a tree on the north shoulder.
Gainer was airlifted to the hospital but was pronounced dead hours later. According to the CHP, no other vehicles seemed to be involved and that Gainer was alone in the car.
The crash is still under investigation and authorities are looking for any witnesses.
