Off-Duty Firefighter Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver

December 7, 2009

Laguna Beach - An off-duty firefighter was thrown 50 feet along Coast highway after being struck by a hit-and-run driver this weekend.

According to witnesses, the firefighter was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk at Brooks Street when he was hit by a car described as either a newer model 4-door Toyota Prius or a Corolla.

Witnesses said that the driver made no attempt to stop and was last seen near Nyes Place.

The off-duty firefighter was brought to Mission Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries.

The Laguna Beach Police are asking the public for information that would help in locating the car and driver.

The car, the police said, would have sustained some noticeable front-end damage and a possible broken windshield.

People with information may call Laguna Police at 949-497-0701.
