PERSONAL INJURY LAW: New Car Safety Devices to Deter Drunk Driving under Study
January 28, 2011
Los Angeles – The government and some automakers are considering ways to equip cars with a new system that would detect and deter people from driving drunk.
The proponents of these devices said the new car system would be invisible and would include breath analyzers that are built into the steering wheel and sense alcohol on the driver’s breath. It would also include touch sensors on the starter button that can detect alcohol level in the skin.
Engineers said the new technology could help save lives as drivers who are legally drunk will not be able to start their car if the devices sense that they are drunk.
