EMPLOYMENT ISSUE: More Furloughs Result in Bigger Deficit
January 27, 2010
Pasadena – Authorities said that an $11 million budget deficit could result to furloughs of city employees wherein about 250 city employees from Pasadena Management Association (PMA) will be affected.
About half of PMA workers will have reduced work amounts from 40 hours per week to only 36-hours weekly. The furloughs will start a week after it has been announced.
The PMA, which is composed of some 500 members, had earlier rejected the offer of city officials that would reduce their proposed pay raises.
Both parties have been in negotiations since October but failed to reach a settlement as the PMA wants a 4 per cent pay raise while the officials offered a 2 percent raise this year and another 2 per cent next year.
Those that are affected in the furloughs will be chosen by the officials based on the importance of their roles in the operation.
