CAR ACCIDENT: Military Court Reduces Sentence for a Coast Guard Officer

The military court has dropped charges of negligent homicide and assault against Petty Officer 2nd Class Ian Howell for pleading guilty of neglect of duty in a fatal San Diego Bay crash happened December 2009 that killed Anthony DeWeese, 8, of Rancho Penasquitos.
Howell, 28, was sentenced reduction of rank, one month restriction to base and monthly salary reduction in a military court at Camp Pendleton.
For the same incident, the court-martial jury also sentenced Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul Ramos, 22, to three months restriction and rank reduction and temporary salary reduction for similar offense.
Coast Guard spokesman Dan Dewell also extended their condolences to the victims of the crash and their families.
Further investigations are still conducted by the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board to determine other information and details of the crash.
