CAR ACCIDENT: Heavy Rains Triggers 613 Collisions along LA roads

December 20, 2010

Los Angeles – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has counted a total of about 613 collisions on Los Angeles roads that have occurred on a single day of December 16.

The significantly high number of vehicular crashes was caused by the steady rainfall on December 16, reports said.

CHP reports said that there were 264 vehicular crashes on Saturday from 5 to 9 a.m. and 349 collisions between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on various Los Angeles highways.

The rain was .14 inches, pouring consistently overnight. The wet roads caused vehicles to slip, overcareer, or rollover; injuring hundreds of motorists.

A fatal crash was reported in San Dimas, when the truck driver swerved on 210 Freeway and slammed onto a Toyota Sedan.

According to CHP reports, there were five adults and two children injured on Interstate 5 crash near Calgrove Boulevard. In 210 Freeway, a car driver lost control on the wheels and overturned. Several crashes occurred on San Dimas, Santa Clarita, San Bernardino, and other LA freeways.

The National Weather Service has alerted the public on heavy storms that may arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. Motorists are cautioned to slow down and observe safety regulations when traversing LA roads for the remaining days.

The Public Works Department has announced a possibility of mudslides in residential areas of Glendale and Dunsmore Park. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
