Governor's Wife Seen Texting While Driving, Apologizes to the Public
October 14, 2009
Los Angeles - Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s wife Maria Shriver was photographed by TMZ.com while she was texting behind the wheel on Sunday, a violation of the state’s No-Texting Law which her husband enacted in January.
Immediately after her photos were released on the Internet, the first lady apologized to the public for violating a traffic law and not using a hands-free device while driving.
Meanwhile, the governor sent a “Tweet” message telling the public “there’s going to be a swift” action on his wife’s traffic violation. However, on the same day this message was sent, Shriver was photographed again in what appears to be another violation of the texting ban law.
Under California’s No-Texting Law, all drivers are prohibited to send, write, and read messages using any communication device such as cell phones and laptops.
However, several road safety experts believe the $20 fine for the first offense for this traffic law is too lenient.
