Fresno Police Begin DUI Checkpoints
December 29, 2009
Fresno - Local authorities, together with other agencies, have started implementing the Avoid the 21 program last Friday in Fresno and Madera, a campaign that aims to crackdown on drunk driving.
A briefing was held at the Manchester Center on the day the program began, which will last until January 3. The California Office of Traffic Safety funded the program which brought sobriety checkpoints to lessen the number of drunk drivers this holiday season.
At least seven people have been arrested since the start of the program the other day. One of them was apparently involved in a car accident. Thirty-two people were arrested for driving without license or their license was suspended.
