CAR CRASH: Eighteen-Year Old Driver Smashes into DMV Building while taking Test
April 26, 2010
Whittier - An 18-year-old local crashed into the west wall of the Department of Motor Vehicles’ building on Monday, while taking a driving test.
Lucas Holliday came out of the driveway with beige 2006 Toyota Corolla. He lost control of the car and smashed into the California DMV building, located along S. Painter Avenue. Holliday said that he must have stepped on the gas instead of the brake, or what is normally known as “pedal confusion.”
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Cory Baker, the driver may have been driving at a speed of 10 and 15 mph, based on the building’s damage.
The DMV examiner who was with Holliday was taken to the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital. He is currently under observation, according to DMV spokesman Mike Marando.
As for the crash, Marando said that "This would be considered a critical driving error and therefore subject to automatic disqualification.” However, Holliday can retake the test after making an appointment.
