September 13, 2010
San Mateo, California – A drunk driver and a Good Samaritan who helped her were killed Sunday morning after being hit by multiple vehicles on Highway 101 in San Mateo, the California Highway Patrol reports.
According to authorities, Stacy White, 39, of San Mateo was apparently drunk while driving south on Highway 101. Another driver, Steven Pereira, 26, of Yolo County, tried to help White when he saw her stop and got out of her vehicle.
Then, a limousine struck both drivers at about 3 am, tossing them into the northbound lanes of the highway. They were hit by several other vehicles, including a CHP cruiser.
Both drivers were found dead at the scene, reports said.
The accident caused a 15-hour backup on the freeway. Lanes were reopened Sunday evening.
