TWO-CAR COLLISION: Driver Making a U-turn along Ramona Expressway Killed

February 1, 2011

San Jacinto – A woman who made a sudden U-turn on Alessandro Avenue was killed, while her passenger was severely injured, in a two-car collision Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 1:30 pm on the Ramona Expressway, near Mt. San Jacinto College, CHP Officer Scott Beauchene said. The driver, 51-year-old Dorothy Ann Woodcocktaney, was driving east in a white Chevrolet Cavalier when she tried to U-turn.

As she swerved left, a white Ford F-150 pickup behind crashed into the driver’s side of the Chevy. Both vehicles ended up on a dirt shoulder. The Chevy’s front passenger-side tire was sheared off.

The driver of the pickup, James Ray, 23, said he tried to turn onto the dirt road when he saw the Chevy U-turn but was not able to stop in time. He was unharmed but called 911 after seeing Woodcocktaney slump over the passenger’s side.

The female passenger seated beside the driver was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley after suffering internal injuries. Ramona Expressway remained open while CHP and firefighters were on the scene.
