DUI Accident: Driver Arrested after Fatal DUI Car Crash

Redding – A 22-year-old man was killed early Friday after a suspected DUI accident on Basler Road west of Hooker Creek Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to authorities, Earl Ray Hughes, 37, was heading east on Basler Road shortly after 12 midnight when he lost control of his 1996 Ford F-150 while making a turn. The car veered off the road and crashed into a tree, killing the passenger who was later identified as Danny Sanchez Mendoza.
Hughes suffered major injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. He faces charges that include vehicular manslaughter, driving under alcohol influence and inflicting injury to another person, the CHP said.
