October 26 2009

Miramar – The 24-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle that resulted in a man’s death and the injuring of another Sunday morning was booked on charges of felony driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter, authorities said.

Iveth Zea, 24, from San Diego was reportedly driving a Chevrolet Avalanche along Empire Street at around 1 a.m. when she lost control over the vehicle which caused her to hit a transformer and a building.

Authorities said the vehicle was going more than 90 mph when the accident happened.

One of her passengers, 22-year-old Nicholas James Zagunis was on the backseat when he was thrown off from the vehicle and died instantly. Investigation shows he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Another passenger, Zea’s boyfriend, suffered skull fractures and was taken to hospital for treatments.

Zea was checked by a doctor before she was taken to Vista jail where she was booked and held on bail.
