CAR ACCIDENT: Covina Man Charged with Murder for Causing Fatal DUI
January 26, 2010
Pomona – A Covina man was charged with two counts of murder after causing the death of two women while driving drunk.
According to Prosecutors, Alan Michael McConnell, 27, initially collided with another vehicle near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Damien Avenue.
McConnell tried to flee the car accident scene but he lost control of the car and struck a tree in the median of Foothill. His two passengers, Renee Hardy, 20, and Telassie Dague, 22, were killed in the fatal DUI.
Both victims are from Alta Toma; Dague is also the owner of the car driven by McConnell.
Investigators said that McConnell’s blood alcohol level at the time of the car accident is 0.15 – nearly twice the legal limit.
Prosecutors charged McConnell with murder instead of vehicular manslaughter because of his previous DUI conviction.
Aside from murder, he will also be charged with 4 misdemeanors – two counts for suspicion of DUI, one for driving on a suspended license and one for leaving the scene of an accident.
His bail is set at $2 million and his hearing is scheduled on February 10.
