June 27, 2010
Paso Robles – A Central Coast officer suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday night after his patrol car was rear-ended while he was checking an abandoned vehicle near Paso Robles, the San Luis Obispo County Sherriff’s Department said.
According to sheriff’s spokesman Rob Bryn, the officer was airlifted to Twin Cities Hospital immediately after the incident, which happened at around 6:40 p.m.
The CHP officer, whose name was not made public, responded to South River Road to attend to a report that a vehicle struck a tree. Instead, he found an abandoned vehicle near the road in the Spanish Camp Road. He was waiting for the tow truck when the accident happened.
Bryn said a speeding Toyota Corolla, driven by a female driver, hit the back of the patrol car, which was pushed to the officer.
According to Bryn, the officer just transferred to the area. Information about his injuries was not released.
