May 27, 2010

Tulare – Two passengers suffered fatal injuries when the car they were riding smashed into a hay baler in the intersection of Road 36 and Avenue 232, Wednesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Ullses Gomez, the driver of the Honda, was driving under the influence of alcohol when the collision happened at around 5:55 p.m.

The victims, 20-year-old Alfredo Salado and an unidentified 20-year-old were sitting at the right side of the vehicle when it smashed with the hay baler.

All three occupants were freed from the wreck with the help of a hydraulic prying device. It was unknown to the authorities whether they wore seat belts or not.

The hay baler’s driver, Robert Alvarado Jr. said he tried to stop the vehicle but he failed to avoid the crash. He was uninjured.
