CAR COLLISION: 2 Adults and 2 Minors Injured in Two-car collision in Irvine
November 9, 2010
Irvine – At least four people, including two children, were injured in a two-car crash involving a Cadillac Escalade and a Ford Expedition on Interstate 5 Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred on the northbound lane of I-5 near Jeffrey Road at about 12:15 pm. Authorities believed that a sofa left in the middle of the road caused the crash. He sofa was apparently ejected from a motorist’s vehicle. One of the vehicles involved may have swerved to avoid it, according to CHP officer Denise Quesada.
Reports show that the person who lost the sofa pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway. Witnesses also claimed that Cadillac crossed over the double yellow lines to get into the carpool lane. The Cadillac overturned during the crash.
A one-hour SigAlert was issued. Two adults suffered traumatic injuries, while two children had minor injuries. They were all taken to a nearby hospital. One of the drivers also suffered minor injuries.
It is still not clear as to how many vehicles were actually involved in the crash, or if the sofa did caused it. The SigAlert for the car-pool lane was canceled at 1:26 p.m.
