18-Year-Old Duarte Woman Killed in 605 Freeway Crash

December 2, 2009

Irwindale – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of a single car crash that killed an 18-year-old woman on the 605 Freeway.

The victim was identified as Elizabeth Amstone, a Cal State LA student from Duarte.

According to initial reports, Amstone was a passenger on a 1995 Acura Integra driven by her boyfriend 17-year-old Deshawn Johnson.

Johnson was driving her to the El Monte bus station where Amstone would take a bus to Cal State.

At about 10:52am, the Integra veered to the right up a dirt embankment and overturned near Arrow Highway.

Amstone was ejected and fell partially onto the far right lane. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Johnson on the other hand sustained minor injuries to his left hand and right leg.

No arrests have been made as of the moment and alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the car accident.
