May 31, 2011
Hayward – A one-year-old baby girl suffered fatal injuries while two others were injured Monday afternoon after the sports utility vehicle they were riding hit a tree in unincorporated Hayward, the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports said the toddler, who was supposed to turn two next month, suffered fatal injuries and was airlifted to Eden Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Her 7-year-old sister suffered life-threatening injuries and was brought to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.
According to reports, the girls’ father, Roberto Arreola was driving their maroon 2010 Honda Pilot along Fairview Avenue at around 2:15 pm when he lost control of it, causing it to veer off the road and smash into a tree. He suffered minor cuts and bruises.
Authorities are still looking for evidence that would point the cause of the accident.
