CAR CRASH: 1 dead, 5 hurt in car crash in Vacaville

Vacaville - A teenager was killed and five others were injured Tuesday evening after the car they were riding struck a walnut tree the California Highway Patrol said.

According to CHP officer Ralph Caggiano, an 18-year-old driver was driving a Volkswagen Jetta along Vaca Valley Road at around 8:40 p.m. when it veered off the road near Pleasants Valley Road in Solano County.

At least five of the six people riding the vehicle suffered moderate and serious injuries, while the driver, died instantly in the crash.

Both the driver and the front passenger were taken by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Meanwhile, the other occupants of the car were brought to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa for treatment.

Investigators said the driver may have been driving too fast when the crash happened. Only one of the six occupants wore a seatbelt.
