CAR CRASH: 1 Killed, 1 Injured in two-car Collision in Wine Country

February 1, 2011

Sonoma – A man suffered fatal injuries and another hospitalized Tuesday after their vehicles collided in unincorporated Sonoma County, the California Highway Patrol said.

According to reports, a 39-year-old Angwin man was driving his 1995 Ford Mustang on Petrified Forest Road, and was trying to pass a 1990 Geo Storm at about 50 mph when he struck its rear.

The impact caused both drivers to lose control of their vehicles, which veered off the road into a grove of oak trees. The driver of the Ford was partially ejected out of his car and suffered fatal injuries.

The driver of the Geo, 39-year-old John Dawes from Santa Rosa, was taken to the hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Authorities said alcohol might not have been a factor in the crash which took place at about 12:20 am.
